A Famine of the word

Bill Dillon

The Old Testament prophet Amos foretold of a day when there would be “a famine in

the land: not a famine of bread…water; but a famine of hearing the Word of God”

(Amos 8:11).  We, today, are a people educated in many things—except God’s Word.

One of George Gallup’s surveys revealed just how religiously uninformed people are:

  1. Less than 50% of adult Americans knew that Genesis was the first book of the Bible.

2.   On the average, American teenagers could name only 3 of the 10 Commandments. It’s

no wonder that values are confused and mixed up today.  There would be a tremendous

difference if people knew the Word of God. My friend, it would make a great difference to

you—it really would!  Take advantage of every possible opportunity to learn more about

the Bible.
