We are opposed

Ephesians 6:10-12:  “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

As Christians, you and I are opposed by a powerful force (Revelation 12:9 – “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him”).

Satan, the devil, is the greatest of the fallen angels – good angels who sinned and were cast from heaven.  He opposes everything that pertains to God, which means he opposes us!  This fallen angels leads his forces of demons against the church primarily and the world generally.

The word “devil” means “accuser” or “slanderer.”   The name “Satan” means “adversary.”  He is our enemy, our opponent, the antagonist, the deceiver, whose one objective is to take as many people as possible to hell with him.

Revelation 12:17 – “And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

Many people miss this, overlook it, choose not to see the fact that “we are at war” with the devil.  We were born into a world at war, and we will live all our days in the middle of a great, epic battle, involving all the forces of heaven and hell and fought here on earth.  This is a brutal and vicious war against an enemy who knows his time is short.  The world in which we live is not a playground, it is a battlefield, it is a combat zone, a violent clash of kingdoms, a bitter struggle unto the death! It is the battle of the ages for the highest of prizes, and there is no middle ground!

There are those who do not believe that there is a devil, Satan. That is a clear indication that he already has them within his grasp.  Does he have you?

1 Peter 5:8 – “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
