Heaven and Hell

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18).

Police in Bridgeport, Connecticut, recently got a flurry of panicked 911 calls, claiming someone was in deadly peril atop a billboard near Interstate 95. Not to worry. It was simply a large mannequin of a man dressed in pajamas and a teddy bear, perched on the top of a billboard as a publicity stunt. The advertiser was pleased with the notoriety.

But a lot of people really are in deadly peril, and it’s no stunt. According to the World Health Organization, about 100 people in the world die every minute. That’s more than one person per second. Most of them enter eternity without Christ!

The same Bible that promises heaven warns of hell. Jesus was particularly plain-spoken on this subject, once telling His enemies, “You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell” (Matthew 23:33).

As followers of Christ, we anticipate the joys of heaven; but let’s not forget that most are lost.  Let’s continue to pray for the lost and ask God to give us opportunities to share His love and the gospel with all we can.

No one who is in hell will be able to say: “God put me here!”

No one who is in heaven will be able to say: “I put myself here!”
