Hosea 7:2 – “It never enters their minds that I remember all their evil deeds. The bad things they do are all around them; they are right in front of Me.”
Apparently the Israelite’s forgot that God sees everything, and that He does not forget anything! They lived as if they could sin one day and by the next day God would have forgotten their sin, so that they could sin again with impunity – they thought that God wouldn’t do anything, that nothing would happen, that they were exempt from punishment!
They thought wrong – God remembers! He is not a forgetful old man who cannot remember his name or where he has been! He is perfect in knowledge – He doesn’t miss anything and He never forgets:
Hebrews 4:13 – “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”
Matthew 10:26 – “…For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.”
Matthew 12:36 – “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the Day of Judgment.”
1 Corinthians 4:5 – “…For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives.”
James 4:17 – “Anyone who knows the right thing to do, but does not do it, is sinning.”
When we do something wrong, we hope that the people in our communities will eventually forget out misdeeds so that we can be accepted as if we had never done anything wrong at all, and eventually they may do so!
However, in contrast to our forgetfulness is God’s ability to remember. Time will not cause Him to forget our sins! We may have sinned 50 years ago, but He remembers that sin, even if everyone else has forgotten it.
Regardless of how long ago the sin was, God remembers, unless our sins have been washed away in the blood of Jesus.
If that is the case, then God says “And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins” (Hebrews 8:12).
Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power, are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
That’s what it will take if you want God to “forget” your sins!
1 Peter 1:18-19: “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.”
