Counterfeit Christianity

“Our greatest problem in this nation is counterfeit Christianity!”

The church in America today is nearly powerless because its pews are filled with lukewarm halfhearted counterfeit “Christians” who have never truly repented. It is full of people who are living sinful lives, people with impure hearts, people who are ok with doing what they think is “just enough,” people who are just going through the motions of organized religion, people who are playing church!

Churches every Sunday are literally filled with sinners who need to repent – the worldly, the greedy, the apathetic, the holier-than-thou’s, the ‘I’m better than you’s,’ the gossipers, the worriers, the profane, the sexually immoral, the addicted, the hateful, the bitter, the mad, the proud, the stingy, the mean, the unforgiving!

Friends, it is time to acknowledge our sinfulness and confess our sins, it is time to be pure in heart! Psalm 66:18 – “If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” NLT

It is time to get rid of our hang-ups and bad habits that are slowly destroying our lives. It is time to: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:31-32). NLT

It is time to stop turning to the things of the world such as drugs, alcohol, pornography, etc., when we are feeling stressed and need relief! It is time to repent of our anxieties and worries and fears! It is time for us to wake up and repent of our half-hearted approach to our Christian faith! It is time to do the will of God!

Matthew 7:22-23: “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” NKJV

Do you know why Jesus will say “depart from me” even though they have prophesied; cast out demons, and done many other great works in His name?

Matthew 7:21 – “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” NKJV

We can call ourselves Christian all day long. We can claim a superior knowledge of grace all we want. We can rest on our laurels and take confidence in our accomplishments, but when the Lord returns, He says that the only ones going with Him are the ones who have “done the will of the Father.”

1 John 2:3-4: “And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.” NLT

Just before making the statement in Matthew 7:21, Jesus gave this very important warning to His followers, Matthew 7:15 – “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” NKJV

Know this, when Satan comes calling with his bag of tricks, you can be sure that ravenous wolves are about to have a feast! The only way to survive this attack is to drop to your knees, and call out toward Heaven, saying “Not my will, but Thine be done!”

We must submit to all of God’s word – hear it, believe it, obey it fully – without adding any manmade doctrines, if we are to escape the warning of Matthew 7:15-23! Will you do it?

Make no mistake about it – on Judgment Day, there could/will be elders, deacons, Sunday school teachers, preachers, farmers, school teachers, etc., along with countless others that will be turned away because they didn’t “know the Lord!”

Matthew 13:3-9: “Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.” NIV

Matthew 13:18-23: “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” NIV

Matthew 13:24-30: “Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’” NKJV

Matthew 13:36-43: “Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.” He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” NKJV

Matthew 13:47-50: “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” NKJV

I tell you today that there are wolves in sheep’s clothing in the church ready to devour the flock; I tell you today that there are “Counterfeit Christians” in the church masquerading as true children of God, but they are troublemakers who want to disrupt the progress being made in the kingdom; I tell you today that there are tares amongst the wheat in every church, noxious weeds that are poisoning the church; I tell you today that there are bad fish mixed in with the good fish in the kingdom; I tell you today that there are hard soil/hearts, shallow soil/hearts, crowded soil/hearts, sitting beside those with good soil/hearts! I tell you today there are people in every church across the world dying and going to hell because they are not doing the will of the Father, they do not know the Lord!

My great fear is that Jesus may be describing some of you – you are nice people, but you may not be truly committed to the Lord, which means you are in danger of losing your souls! It is time to wake up! It is time to rise up, it is time to get out of the rut and routine, it is time to start taking our Christian faith seriously!

Romans 13:11-14: “This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.” NLT

One of the marks of all true Christians is that he hears God (John 10:27 – “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me”). NKJV

The Lord doesn’t know anyone who doesn’t hear His voice. You cannot be a Christian unless you hear His voice. Everyone on the side of truth listens to Jesus! John 18:37 – “…everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” NKJV

This is one of the greatest statements in the entire Bible. A faithful witness hears the voice of God. How – hear the word of God (Romans 10:17 – “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”). NKJV

Are you a “counterfeit Christian?”

If any of this describes you – I’ve got two words for you – “Stop it!”

Stop it and turn to God: Joel 2:12-13: “That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.” NLT

In the end, only the poor in spirit – the humble, will receive the kingdom of heaven!

In the end, only those who mourn – those truly sorry for their sins, will have their sins forgiven and receive comfort!

In the end, only the meek or gentle will inherit the earth – receive all of the best of God’s blessings!

In the end, only those who hunger and thirst for righteousness – those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires – will be filled or fully satisfied!

In the end, only the merciful will receive the mercy and forgiveness of God!

In the end, only the pure in heart – those pursuing holiness – will see God!

In the end, only the peacemakers – those who work for peace in the church – will be called the sons of God and enter heaven!

In the end, only those are persecuted because they do what God requires – those who refuse to yield to the devil – will receive the kingdom of heaven – will go to heaven!

In the end – Romans 14:11-12: “…as I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” NKJV
