Ephesians 2:8 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God…” NKJV
Eternal life begins with God’s grace and results in our faith.
Grace is God’s part in our salvation and involves everything He has done and continues to do for us!
Faith is our part in our salvation and involves us doing everything God has commanded us to do if we want to be saved and have eternal life!
In the New Testament, the important concept that Paul uses to describe the spiritual relationship that Christians have with Jesus is “In Christ.”
Galatians 3:26-27: “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” NKJV
Colossians 3:1-4: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” NKJV
2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” NKJV
The way to salvation is through Jesus: John 14:6 – “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” NKJV
Victory is found only in Jesus: 1 Corinthians 15:57 – “But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” NLT
Hope of salvation can only be found in Christ! Romans 8:1 – “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” NKJV
Every spiritual blessing is in Christ: Ephesians 1:3 – “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” NKJV
These blessings include being redeemed/forgiven: Ephesians 1:7 – “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” NKJV
These blessings also include being brought near to God by the blood of Jesus: Ephesians 2:13 – “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” NKJV
These blessings also include being given the gift of eternal life:
Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” NKJV
1 John 5:11 – “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.” NKJV
When we are hidden with Christ in God, we are in God’s protective spiritual care, and as long as we safely abide in our hiding place, the forces of Satan will not be able to overpower us and take us captive:
1 John 4:4 – “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than He who is in the world.” NKJV
Psalm 61:2-3: “From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.” NKJV
1 Corinthians 10:13 – “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” NLT
If we are in Christ, our lives are being engulfed in the love of God: Romans 8:38-39: “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” NLT
Psalm 103:4 – “He saves my life from the grave and loads me with love and mercy.” NCV
The Bible is crystal clear on this – we were lost in sin and unable to save ourselves, but God loved us and sent His Son to die for us so that we might be saved:
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” NKJV
“In Christ” we receive the strength we need to overcome our besetting sins that have led to chaos in our lives! Now we can say:
Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” NLT
Psalm 68:19 – “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” NIV
Psalm 73:26 – “My mind and my body may grow weak, but God is my strength; he is all I ever need” (GNB).
Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” NKJV
When we are in Christ, we are not only guaranteed eternal life, but we also have God’s protection in time of trials. Nahum 1:7 – “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.” NIV
The person who is “in Christ” can enjoy all the spiritual blessings that are to be found in Him. A person who is not in Christ is lost!
“If you walk with Christ, you’re never alone – but if you walk without Christ, you’ll be alone forever.”
Psalm 62:5 – “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.” NIV
